Films on the Great Lawn: Parviz Tanavoli: Poetry In Bronze

Location: Sunnylands Center and Gardens

Event Type: Film

Event Web Site: http://sunnylands.org/calendar/view/2015-05-15/844/

Parviz Tanavoli is Iran's greatest living sculptor. As a guardian of ancient traditions and innovator of new forms of artistic expression, Tanavoli's contribution to the modern art movement of the Middle East is without equal. "Poetry in Bronze" tells the remarkable story of this esteemed artist's journey of creation that has spanned three continents over more than half a century. Trained in Italy, the artist returned to Iran where he found inspiration in both historic Persian and modern Iranian folk art, culture and poetry. He brazenly broke with tradition and began creating modern art works with a distinctly Iranian aesthetic.    The film will be shown outside on the Great Lawn. Bring blankets and lawn chairs.  Admission is free.  Doors open at 7:30 p.m.  Film begins at 8:00 p.m.    Running time: 70 minutes    Carpooling is strongly advised. Filmgoers may bring small picnics but are reminded that no large coolers are allowed at Sunnylands. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Pets are not permitted.
