Set To Save Partners With Schools
03/31/09
At a time when many school districts are cutting their budgets, Palm Desert’s Set To Save program has launched a new effort to raise money for local schools while teaching students how they can help their families and community save energy.
Working with the Desert Sands Unified School District and its elementary schools in Palm Desert, the Set To Save partnership has created a new fundraising program that gives participating schools $10 for each approved energy survey sign-up generated by its students.
These free, in-home surveys help residents understand their energy use and offer simple steps to reduce consumption and lower utility bills. Surveyed residents are eligible for free compact fluorescent light bulbs, low flow shower heads, LED night lights, and faucet aerators that can provide immediate savings. Pool owners will learn about Set to Save’s convenient, no hassle “Go With the Flow” pool pump program, which gives Palm Desert residents a chance to purchase a variable flow pool pump with standard installation for only $735 – a savings of up to $1,400. These state of the art pumps can reduce a pool’s energy cost by up to 70 percent.
By partnering with local schools, Set To Save seeks to enlist the passion and creativity demonstrated by students who have learned of the benefits these energy saving measures offer to their families, friends, community, and the environment. Students will receive flyers explaining the program in English and Spanish to give to friends and family members who live in Palm Desert. The energy surveys are available one time per residence and past survey participants are ineligible. If you want to save energy, money, and help a local school, please be sure to mention or type in the appropriate elementary school’s code. Signing up is simple and can be done by calling the Palm Desert Office of Energy Management at 837-0287 or by registering online at www.settosave.com.
