Film Series Finale Showcases Glass Artist

02/26/09

Palm Desert’s first public art documentary film series concludes Wednesday, March 18, at 6 p.m. with a free screening of Chihuly Over Venice in the auditorium at the UCR Palm Desert Graduate Center, 75-080 Frank Sinatra Drive.

In this film, internationally acclaimed American glass artist Dale Chihuly embarks on a journey to the world’s leading glass factories in a colorful tribute to the celebrated Venetian glass tradition. Chihuly and his team travel from their studio in Seattle to Finland, Ireland, and Mexico, collaborating with fellow artisans on the creation of 14 shimmering glass forms that would be installed throughout Venice as part of the first International Biennale of Glass.

The screening will be followed by a question and answer period with Fritz Frauchiger, past director of the Palm Springs Desert Museum, and a residential realtor and ongoing consultant to the Chihuly Studio.

The film series, which featured three free screenings of public art-related films, is presented by the City of Palm Desert Public Art Department and the UCR Palm Desert Graduate Center.

While admission is free, reservations are required. To reserve tickets, please call 834-0956.
