Celebrate Palm Desert History in Pictures
01/29/09
Get an up-close look at our community’s rich and fascinating history captured in vintage photographs during a release celebration for the book “Images of America – Palm Desert” on Friday, February 20, 3 to 6 p.m. at the Palm Desert Visitor Center.
Longtime residents, including members of the Historical Society of Palm Desert, who helped conduct interviews and compiled information and photos for the book, will be on hand to answer questions at the celebration.
Historical Society President Barbara Keedy Eastes, who has lived in what is now Palm Desert since 1945, said the book’s many photographs do a wonderful job of illustrating the dramatic changes that have taken place through the years.
“It’s fabulous,” she said. “We’re, basically, a pretty young place and many people, even if they’ve been here for 20 years, have no idea of what it was like.”
Copies of “Images of America – Palm Desert” will be available for purchase at the event for $21.99, plus tax. Proceeds benefit the Historical Society.
The Visitor Center is located at 72-567 Highway 111. For more information, please call 568-1441.
