Amazing events and super shops await!
Get ready to suit up! Fans of comics and cosplay are looking forward to the return of Comic Con Palm Springs for the second year at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Held on August 25-27 with a schedule packed with artists, writers, producers and vendors, this event will delight fans of all ages.
For many, the big draw will once again be special guest Stan Lee—the iconic co-creator of everyone’s favorite Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor, X-Men and many other iconic characters. In the process, he transformed Marvel Comics from a small publisher to a large multimedia corporation. Stan is scheduled to participate in panels, parties and photo ops, so check out the Comic Con Palm Springs website for details on how you can meet and greet your idol.
An added treat this year is a special Saturday evening concert by Lynda Carter, the iconic actress of Wonder Woman fame. She’ll bring her “The Other Side of Trouble” tour to the convention center for a very special 90 minute show. According to Comic Con’s producers, this is the first time Ms. Carter has attended any comic con, so her fans won’t want to miss out.
Plenty of other celebrity guests and celebrity cosplayers will be on hand throughout the weekend, too. Come ready to compete in the $1000 Cosplay Contest, or scour the vendor booths for hidden treasures to add to your collection.
While you’re in the desert for Comic Con Palm Springs, be sure to swing through Palm Desert to check out the two great comic book stores found in our city.
Desert Oasis Comics has long been the mainstay for comic fans in the Coachella Valley and not simply because for many years it was the only comic book store in the area. You’ll find all the major new releases and recent back issues. But they’re really known for their deep collection of classic and collectible editions, most from the personal collection of the owner. Whether you’re longtime fan of the genre or a newbie to comics, their friendly, knowledgeable staff is ready to help.
In business for a little over a year now, Comic Asylum is still the newcomer on the block. The owners aren’t new to the comic book business, however, having previously owned a store in Palm Springs. They cater to regular readers and collectors alike with exclusive old and new comic books, action figures, anime and sports memorabilia. Their walls and shelves are filled with signed and authenticated memorabilia to suit any taste from Disney to Deadpool.
