Free Concert: Spark Percussion

An Ensemble-In-Residence at Cal State San Bernardino

Members of Cal State San Bernardino’s music department will perform a free concert at the university’s Palm Desert Campus on Friday, May 18, at 7pm. Spark Percussion, an ensemble-in-residence with the CSUSB music department, will perform a rhythmical and tuneful program of classical, jazz and salsa music, with lots of cowbell. Audience members will hear familiar favorites like Enrique Granados’ “Spanish Dances,” as well as jazz standards and several new pieces composed by members of the group.

Spark Percussion is a professional percussion ensemble-in-residence at Cal State San Bernardino. Drawing members from CSUSB’s faculty, alumni and current students, the group vigorously explores repertoire of ever-growing complexity and ever-varying genres. True to its name, Spark Percussion actively pursues the creation of new music by encouraging compositions from promising new composers, including its own members. The ensemble also seeks to generate interest in percussion music and support percussion education through interaction with students of all ages and with the larger community. Admission is free and advanced reservations are not required. Parking will be enforced at $6 per vehicle. The concert will take place in the campus’ Indian Wells Theater located at 37-500 Cook St.
